USCT Monument, Rocky Mount, VA - January 18, 2026
This video captures my visit to the Raising the Shade Monument Unveiling in Rocky Mount, Virginia. The fourteen foot monument honors seventy United States Colored Troops whose service and sacrifice were long overlooked. Standing on the grounds of First Baptist Church, this moment reflects remembrance, history, and the importance of telling these stories while those connections still live in our communities.

Mission
The mission of The Black Veteran Newsletter is to inform, document, and amplify issues affecting Black veterans. The newsletter provides accessible information on benefits, policy, history, and resources, while preserving stories that are often overlooked or erased. Its purpose is to support awareness, connection, and informed decision making within the Black veteran community.
Vision
The vision of The Black Veteran Newsletter is a future where Black veterans and our military history are fully seen, accurately represented, and equipped with the information needed to navigate life after service. The publication aims to be a trusted source that contributes to accountability, historical record keeping, and stronger outcomes for veterans and their families.
